CEREMONIAL CONCERT: SOPHIA TUV & JACINTA PERCY

As singers and musicians, we are consciously and unconsciously competing with each other. To become the best and forget the rest. For me, this was true.

In my early 20’s, the pressure of being the best was too much for me. I stopped performing, singing, acting and dreaming my creations into reality. I could never do anything good enough as I was competing with what I saw, heard, and what I thought I should be. Therefore, it created a disconnect between my body, heart and voice between technique and soul, science and art.

Today, I see it in my students, especially high school students. The restraints and pressure placed upon them to be something they are not, at an age so beautiful and yet so confusing. This pressure can be damaging, for one’s understanding of life, self-expression and voice.

After six years of hiding my love of music and much questioning, I came to the understanding that music is for sharing. Sharing in community and as a community. Music has always been a community activity.

When you begin to explore music and singing, it’s wisdom teaches you about collaboration and harmony, and how to connect with and support others. That there is no perfect moment or sound. That sometimes you have a great idea, but you have to let it go. That the best thing for you to do is soften, surrender and allow the music to sing through you.

Sophia Tuv and I met five years ago, at a vocal meditation workshop she was hosting for Amit Carmeli. I was immediately attracted to her lustrous curly hair and angelic voice. This workshop experience bonded us, and from that day, she became my sister in life and music. I knew we would sing together!

I am excited to announce we will be hosting our first Ceremonial Concert on Friday 6th September from 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm at a home concert in Ivanhoe, Victoria.

It will be a beautiful evening of sharing music, song and story — a moment to meet in truth and harmony, melody and heart.

I hope you can join us!
