My Aunty had been telling me for years, “if you want to play the guitar, I would love to teach you.” I thought about it for some time. Then in July of 1996 at my Dad’s 40th birthday by some spark of magic, I was inspired to learn the acoustic guitar. There and then I asked my Aunty Anne about having music lessons, and we began the following week. These guitar lessons led me to the purchase of my dearest and longest-serving magic friend and instrument Iggy Ibanez!
Iggy Ibanez was my first love and dearest travel companion. He has travelled with me nearly everywhere for the last 20 years. The music we have made has touched hearts all over the world, last year I knew it was time to rest Iggy and find my new companion.
At the end of a Sound Weaving workshop early last year, I received the most precious gift from my students. They had gathered together a sum of money to go towards a new guitar!! I was overwhelmed and so grateful. I promised I would save $50 every week until I was ready to buy my new guitar. Three weeks ago, after saving for more than a year, I purchased my new love a Martin 00-15M warm, smooth and ready to sing for all those willing to listen.
Thank you to the students who gave me this precious gift and started me on the journey of saving; without it, I don’t think I would have begun saving. You have all taught me about the importance of heartfelt generosity and what support means, thank you for allowing me to thrive. Community is one of the most important gifts, and it wouldn’t be possible for me to teach without the amazing community I have around me.
